The rising stars of the design industry vied for Anna Wintour’s approval at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. Ever the diplomat, the magazine’s editor greeted and wished each of the ten finalists the best of luck for the $200,000 prize and year-long business mentorship that accompanied the honor.

The members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and the socialites that love them, were all in attendance anxiously awaiting the name of the winner, Alexander Wang, to be announced by the master of the house of Christian Dior, John Galliano. Fashionistas like Julie Macklowe, Daphne Guinness, and Sasha Heinz (the Greenwich-bred, Harvard-educated wife of Heinz ketchup heir Christopher Heinz) were all on hand at Skylight Studios in Soho, cheering on their beloved couturiers.

It was almost six months ago when Tory Burch won the CFDA’s superlative of accessory designer of the year. This time around, she was on the arm of her boyfriend, Warner Music Group chairman Lyor Cohen, proudly showing him off to the world she created for herself.

The downtown set had artist Terence Koh as an excuse for a jaunt uptown, specifically to the former studio of photographer Richard Avedon, which is now owned by Olivier Sarkozy, the half-brother of the president of France. The New York-based Chinese artist was celebrated at the opening of his latest exhibition there, called “Flowers for Baudelaire.”

Vito Schnabel, son of the filmmaker and visual artist Julian, curated the show, after having attended Larry Gagosian’s toast to Aaron Young in Moscow. Bee Shaffer’s close friend (and fellow Teen Vogue contributing editor) Selby Drummond and rock progeny Theodora and Alexandra Richards were amongst many to take off their high heels to view Koh’s powdered sugar-covered canvases.

Model Julia Restoin Roitfeld just celebrated her twenty-eighth birthday with a dinner in her honor, thrown by her parents, Christian Restoin and Paris Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld. Julia’s close friends, Genevieve Jones and Stavros Niarchos, were on hand for the intimate festivities at Indochine.

The Apollo Circle of the Metropolitan Museum of Art presented their fifth-annual benefit dance to raise funds for the New York institution’s conservation departments. Carolina Herrera underwrote the entire evening.

Marjorie Gubelmann and Mario Grauso, of the Barcelona-based Puig Group, which owns the Carolina Herrera and Nina Ricci brands, hosted a private dinner for select museum patrons at Marjorie’s private residence. (Her cousin, Phoebe Gubelmann, is the director of communications for Carolina’s company.) Guests, including Gigi Mortimer and Tory Burch, enjoyed chicken pot pies before heading over to the Fifth Avenue museum’s Temple of Dendur for dessert and dancing.

The fashion designer was undoubtedly impressed with the turnout there as most of the revelers there, including benefit chairs Tinsley Mortimer and Ivanka Trump, were dressed in her decadent creations. Paul Sevigny, of the Beatrice Inn, spun for the social crowd, which included Sylvana Soto-Ward and Carolina’s youngest daughter, Patricia Lansing.

Numerous toasts were made throughout the evening for Vogue staffer Devon Schuster and her new fiancé, the London-born banker Philip Radziwill, grandson of Prince Stanislaw Albrecht Radziwill, the Polish nobleman that was once married to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s sister, Lee.

Italian lingerie brand Le Perla invited socialites Olivia Chantecaille and Genevieve Jones to the second floor of their Madison Avenue flagship boutique to raise funds for Gilda’s Club of New York City, the regional support network for the families and friends of those living with cancer. Over cocktails, the ladies looked over and purchased pieces from the company’s fall offerings, including a ready-to-wear collection by Alessandro Dell’Acqua; 10% of the generated funds were donated to the not-for-profit.

Actress and model Byrdie Bell is fresh from Brazil, where she caught the Claro Rio summer swimwear fashion show with Zani Gugelmann and Alice Dellal. One of Byrdie’s closest friends, Chessy Wilson, gave birth to a baby boy named Franklin Thorsten-Tiger Slater, on November 11. This is Chessy’s first child with her boyfriend, Paul Slater.

This week, Ada Morgan, the daughter of Texas-born telecommunications heiress and Vanity Fair editor Alexis Bryan Morgan and her husband, New York Observer columnist Spencer Morgan, turns one month old.

Louis Vuitton and Men’s Vogue hosted a benefit honoring director Baz Luhrmann at the Museum of Modern Art. Patrons, including fashion designers Rachel Roy and Tory Burch, were treated to a preview of Luhrmann’s upcoming epic film, Australia, which is slated for a U.S. release in two weeks, and a performance by Sir Elton John after dinner.
