There are a lot of signs that nature gives us to inform us that spring is finally here. The weather gets warmer, the days get longer, and sometimes it seems that the sun is even brighter than it was before. What was yellow is now lush and bulbs that were once plunged deep in the ground triumph above. Perhaps the greatest sign, in New York City, is when the town’s leading ladies exchange their uniform of monochromes for plum prints and vibrant colors in the name of charity.

Social swans, including Fabiola Beracasa and Arden Wohl, assembled on the thirty-sixth floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel for the annual spring gala of New Yorkers for Children, a favorite charity of theirs that aims to assist children that are in the city’s welfare and foster care systems. Missoni sponsored “A Fool’s Fete” this year and one of the label’s heiresses, Margherita Maccapani Missoni, had come back from Paris to celebrate with her friends, including Tatiana Santo Domingo and Eugenie Niarchos. The ladies sipped their cocktails and munched on their meals, at tables decorated with Swarovski crystals, in between meticulously comparing their dresses.

The real party started as soon as DJ Sky Nellor started spinning her tracks. In their sky high heels, the women stampeded onto the dance floor. Tinsley Mortimer premiered her namesake Tinsley Pink lip gloss by Dior Beauty that night, and with her husband Topper, led the pack to their crowd’s usual late-night habitats, including the Rose Bar, the Beatrice Inn, and the Box for some traditional after-hours chasers.

Comments

1. Upper East Sider - April 21, 2008

I love Fabiola’s look! So tres, tres chic. Love Tinsley and Dabney too!

2. gallop3 - April 21, 2008

Fabiola stockings look mismatched with her dress. First bad picture I’ve seen of Tinsley. Her hair does not look good curly, and it shows her dark hair roots more.

3. Gossip Girl - April 21, 2008

Tinsley looks tired. She needs to get some rest and get back to looking fabulous!

4. Lindsay - April 21, 2008

Dabney’s diamond cuff is to die for… I want it! :) That’s a gorgeous pic of Jennifer. She looks great.

5. Richmonder - April 21, 2008

First of all, Dabney looks so cute. If she looks like a teenager in her twenties, then I think she will age very well. The cross pendant is such a nice touch. Tinsley looks fine too! I like her hair the way she has it curled in the picture… it has a very angelic quality about it. And by the way, Marisa is a stunner!

6. Fabiola-fan - April 21, 2008

I love Fabiolas dress! But stockings are too dark and do not harmonize.

7. Savannah - April 21, 2008

1. I love Zani’s dress!
2. Alexis looks terrific- that is a great color for her-
3. Byrdie is so pretty and I like that she’s smiling
4. don’t really care for Fabiola’s stockings but that dress is awesome
and she looks fabulous!

Looks like a fun night!

8. b.SophiaLoren - April 21, 2008

-Jennifer Missoni is becoming one of my new favs. She’s so pretty, yet she has a sassiness about her. Hot!
-Fabiola is an old fav- lose the tights & the gratuitous bit of silk and I say she’d look absolutely perfect!
-Dabney trumpted the Tinz in this go round. She looks great.
-LOL@ DAYSSI’S HAIR IN HER MOUTH! Heehee… also, I imagine her her toes are going blue from the lack of circulation past her ankle.
-Georgina is a natural sultry beauty… great post!

9. HHH - April 21, 2008

This is really not Tinsley’s best night.

Marisa looks the best here.

Fabiola looks great from the knees up. Her face looks beautiful.

Alexis is glowing

Daysii and Zani both look like unmade beds

10. Mari - April 21, 2008

georgina needs to start eating. seriously.

11. UESgirl - April 21, 2008

Always impressed with Marisa Noel Brown..

12. Still A Lady - April 21, 2008

Tinsley, you ought to know better than to attempt a peepee pose wearing a full length dress. It just makes you look, um… endowed in the wrong place. No knees sticking out front and center, okay darling? Please reserve your pose for shirt skirts ONLY. Whew, glad I got that off my chest.

Now onto Dayssi…

could she look any more like an aging Desperate Housewife? Her “look” is insane. She reminds me of Magda in “Somthing About Mary”.

Fabiola looks fabulous from the hips up. I wish she’d wear more full-length dresses though because her legs are so clunky as to be distracting.

13. Still A Lady - April 21, 2008

(sorry about the typos)

14. Jonrah - April 21, 2008

Damn, I’m so disappointed! I was hoping to read a headline this morning saying Tinsley was preggers only because for some strange reason I had a dream that she was…I come to this site way to often.

15. Amen - April 21, 2008

A few posts back, everyone made such a big deal about Serena M,
she looks ordinary here. Thought she was the next big thang ?

Black lace legs always look bad, looks like a rash.

Marisa looks great !

16. td - April 21, 2008

Does anyone know the designer of Zani’s dress?

17. hmillic - April 21, 2008

Yeah!! Serena Merriman=hotness. Ordinary? I think not.

18. milanchic - April 21, 2008

Jennifer Missoni is very pretty.

Fabiola looks gorgeous! Her dress is cute.

Tinsley & Dabney are looking pretty.

Byrdie looks good.

Morgan is pretty.

Georgina & Rachel = goddesses!

19. Fashionista - April 21, 2008

Zani is wearing J. Mendel.

Fabiola looks so Parisian chic. The tights add a lot of character to her outfit.

Tinsley’s wearing Dior (duh) but I think the dress covered up way too much.

With a lot of Missoni, it only looks really good if you accessorize the right way. Jennifer’s bracelet makes her look… what a hot picture of her! :)

20. TIppi - April 21, 2008

Byrdie looks flawless. Her fashion choices as of late are fantastic.

21. Still A Lady - April 21, 2008

#20, are you kidding?? Did you see the hot mess she was wearing in the previous post? i.e., the pink 8th grade prom disaster?

Milanchic/#18 - interesting comments - she’s pretty, pretty, pretty dress, pretty… Then, bam, “goddesses”. Um, you are looking at the same picture I am? So which one are you, Georgina or Rachel?

22. Tippi - April 21, 2008

#21- I thought Byrdie worked that pink 80’s dress. It wasn’t for everyone but I think she looked edgy and pretty in it. I have to give her credit for cultivating her own style and taking fashion risks.

23. stompy legs in lace - April 21, 2008

@ fashionista: if you actually were a fahsionista, knew parisian women, or had at least been to paris, you would know that this is not at all what parisian women dress or look like. parisian woman tend to be painfully skinny (not like this little porker here), and would not been caught dead in a mismatched outfit like this, with those tacky tights …

24. Jemma - April 21, 2008

Fabiola looks like a tacky vegas showgirl in that dress, and the tights are a disaster. Good hair though.
Tinsley look so pretty with ringlettes, and Dabney is one of the few lucky ones that can pull off that flowery pattern.
Why does Dayssi always choose the worst shoes. BOGO nightmare
Every time I see Byrdie now all I think about is her bad breath. RaIchel Zoe probably has it too, since she’s disappearing right before our eyes. Anorexia is so aging
p.s. Jonah, if you are starting to dream about socialites, it’s time to take a long break from PAP and get a life of your own, dear.

25. 10022 - April 21, 2008

BB = Byrdie Bell = Bad Breath

I didn’t speak to her last night but in the past her breath has smelled awfully vile.

26. 10022 - April 21, 2008

Btw it was lovely to see Alexis smiling when people felt her tummy!

27. Was there... - April 21, 2008

It’s hillarious people are talking about Byrdie’s halitosis because I was at the event last week and she really did have some weird smelling breath. It smelled like a mixture of cigarettes, coffee, and some sort of intestinal problem you only learn about in med school. I felt bad for her but at the same time laughed with others cause she is so pretentious. It’s unfortunate she has bad breath cause she looked great but when she opened her mouth it just ruined everything.

28. SuSu - April 21, 2008

I think everyone looks wonderful! Fabiola looks fabulous, too, except for the stocking choice. Love, love that dress and how it moves on her; gorgeous girl!

Kudos to Byrdie for taking fashion risks but she always looks so washed out in the photos - I know the lighting isn’t the best but she knows that, always stops to pose…so, step up to the plate! Like her dress but she doesn’t add any personal flair or signature to anything she wears, therefore she looks blah - too bad. However, I am not suggesting that she go to Rachel Zoe for any help. It’s one thing to have your own “look” (i.e., Arden) but its another thing to look like every trampy Hollywood starlet that thinks the 70s were a fashion era to emulate and go to Rachel for the look. You can go to Goodwill and it will cost a lot less. Byrdie - go to Bergdorf’s!

Morgan Harbin - wow! Great, great look and pulled together and polished! And Marissa Noel Brown - wow! Zani looks great as always. Unfortunately, Dayssi is starting to look like a Boca matron. Come on - Dayssi - you can do better!

29. HHH - April 21, 2008

10022 - the party wasn’t last night…what are you talking about?

30. Hope the Met is much better than this.... - April 21, 2008

–Fabiola looks the Best she has ever looked- the whole look was amazing, well except for those Dreaaadful tights. Awful and almost ruined her whole look. What Was she thinking with those?

–Tinsley looks Cheap, as usual, and were those tacky “pink” shoes suppose to match her “pink” lipstick. How creative…..I almost wanted to die at the sight of that cheap looking satin thing and those god awful sandles. Her skin matches the dress…

–B. Bell needs a Stylist. You will never be Boho, so PLease stop trying. Stick with the preppy look, this switching back and forth, makes you look too immature about your fashion choices. You should not wear every dress that arrives on your doorstep just because they are on loan. Just buy something like looks good and fashionable. You are clearly getting the clothes no other girl would be sent.

31. MC - April 21, 2008

Ummm. Fabiola- wouldn’t know where to begin.

The Mercer girls are over-rated to me. Tins didn’t look so hot here and there is something about Dabney’s look that never seems to impress me.

Zani may have wanted to shorten those straps and it’s too bad Dayssi is eating her hair.

BB is SO OVER-RATED. WHY OH WHY DO WE HAVE TO ALWAYS SEE HER. There has to be others that we can replace her with. At least she had something close to a smile in this shot. Yes, she needs to quit starving herself (previous posts) and she tends to look washed out. Blah!

It’s not all negative. Marissa Noel Brown is a Stunner! Wow. We need to see more of her and less of BB and a few others. Great classical look. She’s one of my favs!

Georgina looks quite stunning as well.

32. Anee - April 21, 2008

Fabiola looks so FRESH and HAPPY here. Just gorgeous.

Dabney, find some shoes that fit. Toes that hang over to the ground are just not attractive (Paris & Nicky are guilty of ugly finger-toes, too.)

Tinsley has bad color here. Maybe she wasn’t feeling 100%.

Georgina is stunning.

33. Calloway - April 21, 2008

Simply judging on looks, and not what anyone is wearing, there are only a few pretty people here:

1) Tinsley (but not the way she is done up here)
2) Serena (the most normal looking of all the girls)
3) Dayssi (she doesnt look great here but she is pretty)
4) Victoria
5) Sang A
6) Georgina
7) MMB
8) Sylvana (still, very overrated on this site)

How anyone can think ape like Byrdie, horse face Marisa (she does have pretty hair, however) or plastic beyond comprehension Fabiola are pretty amazes me. Most so called critics on here know nothing about beauty. Also, Dabney hardly looks like a teenager if you saw her up close her skin is so sun damaged she has tons of crows feet. Her mouth and jaw are also weird.

What is it with so many social girls having horse faces or weird jaws, chins or mouths? It is definitely the biggest physical flaw among these women and does anyone else think it’s bizarre.

On the subject of the event, I was there and it really does get less fun every year. Imagine being in a room with 400 people preoccupied with photo ops for 4 hours…it didn’t even end after cocktail hour, as it usually does. Even those who are not normally picture hounds, I just did not want to be around. Unfortunately my husband could not attend so I had to put up with it a lot more than I wanted to.

34. sia - April 21, 2008

Marisa Noel Brown has so obviously won this one! GORGEOUS. What a nice glow about her and the dress and entire look is perfect.

#23 Stompy– you SAID IT! woo hoo. I would be embarrassed to be Parisian or even French to have to be compared to this sucked & squeezed/implanted/collagen’d face and stumpy legs. Why does Fab insist on attempting this fashion-forward avant garde look when it so clearly never suits her? It’s sad almost.

I don’t know if anyone concurs but I do not care for blondes in yellow at all, and god forbid a bright vibrant shade of yellow, so Serena looks awful to me.

As for the Mercers, this is the first truly bad pic of Tins i have seen. Her face is like disappearing (as well as matching her dress, as said by someone else). She and Dabney look very alike in this photo. i never think Dabney comes out good in photos for some reason; perhaps her squinty eyes? Dab’s legs also look odd.

Does anyone know why Rachel Z insists on covering every inch of her body every time she is at events? Is it to cover all her bones that are sticking out? Or is there some other reason? (harkens back to Rachel Roy..)

35. ASG - April 21, 2008

Tinz does take bad pics?! I feel like I did the day the rents told me there was no easter bunny!! The white dress is unflattering for her both in color and style.

Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos’s outfit looks tacky…again and as always.

36. Calloway - April 22, 2008

I forgot Jessica Joffe…she looks gorg here and she looked even better in better. Most important, no horse face or long weird jaw!

37. Calloway - April 22, 2008

Meant better in PERSON

38. maggie - April 22, 2008

sylvana is gorgeous. can she ask her fiance to miss a meal tho.

39. Un-Chic in pepto pink - April 22, 2008

Tinsley looks crusty and gross! For such a big event in the spring, you would think there would be time for a TAN, especially if you are wearing a WHITE dress!
I guess she was just too busy posing for page six again or something chic like that…..Or maybe she was busy gluing the chunky logo onto her pleather “bags”. Or perhaps she was coordinating her shoes and dress, oh wait, no.

40. xtina in chi - April 22, 2008

Say what you will about Rachel Zoe, her look here is ‘F*n pretty. As is Georgina’s.

41. bunny - April 22, 2008

tinsley looks so cheap/tacky… yuck..

42. Nichellebelle - April 22, 2008

Perhaps Tins is just sick. It does happen to humans you know. I mean give the girl a break, she looks perfect year-round. If you look at any of the other pictures on Patrick Mcmullan she looks fine.

43. downtowner - April 22, 2008

Dabney may look like a teenager but it is not a good thing in your twenties to have the same hair as a high school suburbanite. She needs to polish that up with a more natural color and a more sophisticated cut.

Love Fabs dress, not the tights.

Ali Larter wore the dress that Zani is wearing earlier this year.

44. NYBlondes - April 22, 2008

I like Tinsley’s sister Dabney.

45. darina - April 22, 2008

Fabiola looks like a clown, as always. Georgina and Marisa looks gorgeous.

46. Heiress - April 22, 2008

Did you know that Tinsley’s daddy was a discount rug salesman and rug cleaner in Richmond (where Tinsrey is from)? That’s so high class, my friends…the very top.
Let us all bow down to the rug salesman’s social climbing daughter.
Seems to run in the family. Talk about a fabricated lineage!!

47. 74th - April 22, 2008

Heiress, that dumb story is so tired. As is the chorus that will follow, describing Greymont as a mansion and the finest house in Virginia. Please, spare us (on both sides!).

48. Tippi - April 22, 2008

Jennifer Missoni looks a lot like Scarlet Johansson in that picture. What is her story? She seems to be around a lot less than her sister.

49. Amen - April 22, 2008

Well, the biggest question is unanswered- is Tins wearing her
“Tinsley Pink” lipgloss in this photo ?
If so, its a bad tint for her skin tone, too pale, too blue-ish white.

Dabney’s lip color looks much better here, and also her foundation, or
maybe its her real skintone.

50. James River - April 22, 2008

No, Heiress, he wasn’t a discount rug dealer. At one time, his place was the only place to get rugs cleaned in the area. Since people in Richmond love their orientals, the cleaning business was, and still is, quite lucrative.

Besides that, what does in matter? The south is different from the north. A lot of FFV’s and other monied southern people who can trace their lineage to the Carters and other founding familes lost their fortunes during the unpleasant “War of Northern Aggression”. The Depression came along just as these families were getting on their feet again. In Virginia, your family tree is much more important than how much money you have (or don’t have). The way you conduct yourself, and the way you treat other people are also considered important attributes.

You may or may not like Tinsley but one thing you consistently hear is how nice she is and what good manners she has. Who cares what Daddy did? You know “God bless the child who’s got his own”?

51. SuSu - April 22, 2008

As a Richmonder, I can tell you that (1) Tinsley’s daddy was NOT a discount rug dealer and (2) FFV lineage goes a long way around here and pretty much every where else.

The Mercer Rug Co. is still one of the finest establishments in the area and Tinsely’s grandfather a true Southern gentleman, in every possible way. I use them on a regular basis and their service is excellent. There is nothing wrong, in any way, of running a top flight business that has been in existence for 75+ years.

To the so-called “Heiress” - let me ask you the typical Richmond question: what is your mother’s maiden name and what does your daddy do? I can only imagine the answer. What do you do beside spew ignorance about someone you know nothing about? And don’t bother to vomit back my question, either. Ask you own.

And…anyone that uses the word “class” never has any. Period.

52. MC - April 22, 2008

Since we are on lineage… here is a question I honestly don’t know the answer to. I have personally found this to be somewhat of a nice family trivia, but nothing more. My Great-great Uncle was the governor of NY and two term President… does that, in and of itself make one of proper lineage according to my fellow PAPs? Just an interesting thought on what it considered proper and not…

53. What century are we in? - April 22, 2008

Are we really going to dispute lineage and “class” in 2008? Get a grip.

54. 74th - April 22, 2008

I grew up in Richmond and currently live in NY. And I can honestly say that no one has ever asked me for my mother’s maiden name (except at the bank).

55. Brooke Zhang - April 22, 2008

It’s been awhile since I last posted comments on this delicious website (maternity leave, taking care of baby #2 while not alienating baby #1–my husband). Jennifer Missoni looks straight out of The Bada Bing with her spiraling pelvis and Jersey Girl braids. Nice clutch of spring insect eggs growing on her wrist there. Is it the season for wearing negligees as evening wear again? Fabiola, well, is great. You know, I used to not like her that much. I remember commenting on her chipmunk cheeks and questionable wardrobe… But this girl is exceptionally consistent in her flirty, youthful, joie de vivre style. The fact that she’s brunette brings the necessary ounce of sobriety into her style, anchoring some substance into her fling-a-flang dresses. The warm golden hue of her flapper dress is a nice compliment for her skin tone and hair color. Tinsley and Dabney. Together they sound like a bad 70s cop-detective series. They’ve achieved a lot, considering they look airheaded. But I suppose one can go far on Southern charm and a vintage-seal surname in the Northeast. Being pert and blonde doesn’t hurt either. Zani Gugelmann has her father’s facial features but she makes it up by exercising her shoulder and chest muscles til they practically scream “Olympic goddess.” Her white cascade dress has nuances of Grecian urn. Dayssi looks like she’s been swallowed up by a tsunami and is auditioning for a Brite-Smile advertisement. Byrdie Bell just broke up with her boyfriend but looking at her, you wouldn’t know; she looks angelic and heavenly. Marisa’s face looks collagen-pumped (note the chin). Serena looks like she just got some afternoon delight and was tossed out into her dress. The yellow-and-black palette is quite WASPy. What’s wrong with Alexis Bryan’s nose? Her empire-waist dress has the texture of those antique drapes one finds in a dusty, little-used sitting room in a Providence manse. Morgan Harbin, what were you thinking? Didn’t my husband and I see you serving drinks at the roulette table in Foxwoods Casino? Or are you just trying to channel Vanna White circa 1990s? The hairdo is a tad dated too. Is it me or does Georgina Chapman look like Fran Drescher in this photo? And please ship Rachel Zoe back to geisha house. I’ve never been a fan of Rachel Zoe, so-called fashion stylist. She basically just dresses her clients to look like herself (Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie). She has the sagging face and bottle-blondness of Zsa Zsa Gabor, and the bent, skinny body of a mayfly.

56. MC - April 22, 2008

That’s exactly my point… the Mercer girls, DARs, who cares? Social status or climbing is what it is. People make themselves into what they want to be perceived as. So, any debate over who came from what family is rediculous. If your family didn’t come from off the boat to Ellis Island or since, chances are somewhere in everyone’s family is something to cling to for social status. So either it matters or it doesn’t. There are a lot of PAPs that do want to make it an issue- don’t.

57. Sarah - April 22, 2008

SuSu is such a lovely southern woman and so full of cr#p

58. 74th - April 22, 2008

MC, that is a great point. How often does lineage come up anyway unless someone goes out of their way to discuss it? Haha, it is kind of funny to think about someone standing around and name dropping Thomas Jefferson.

59. SuSu - April 22, 2008

#52: I don’t know and don’t think its really important. However, they are MANY, MANY others on this board to whom lineage is life and death!

#53: I was responding to the vomit from #46 - I never said it was the right or wrong thing to discuss - it’s just what passes for cocktail chat in this city. Personally - I don’t give a damn.

#54: If no one in Richmond has ever asked you that question, then they didn’t need to! I think its horribly inappropriate and beyond snobby…and its my husband that’s FFV, not me.

#57: actually, I am a true Yankee and I qualify for the DAR, etc., none of which I have any interest in joining. However, your comment qualifies your for…what?

#58: you’d be surprised just how often that kind of thing occurs at UVA and in Richmond. I find it beyond rude. I spent some time volunteeering this past weekend and went to a cocktail party that followed. There were two men at the party who were arguing about their shared ancestry. I left the group and found another glass of wine. Unfortunate fact of life here in Virginia.

And to forestall further discussion regarding my husband - we had been at least engaged (I don’t remember exactly) before he told me about his family background. He is the true gentleman with lovely manners, so unlike so many Richmonders who use their mother’s maiden name as a calling card while offering nothing else.

To sum it up: lay off the Mercer girls unless you know what you are talking about and re-read #50’s post - s/he’s much nicer than me.

60. I agree #57 - April 22, 2008

Susu:

You know what else shows no “class”? Telling people they have no “class.” Get over yourself.

61. SuSu - April 22, 2008

#59: don’t care!

62. HHH - April 22, 2008

YEE HAW to #59 and #57 and let’s throw James River in with SuSu. All the Tinsley, Dabney and Laird cr*p is so tedious.

63. SuSu - April 22, 2008

#62: still don’t care!! Talk about tedious…you and your little friends leave a lot to be desired. I don’t see you walking away from any discussion of the Mercers…or any one else for that matter.

64. HHH - April 22, 2008

There you are wrong, SuSu….I rarely chime in on the ridiculous topic of her lineage. As far as I am concerned, she married up. End of discussion. I’m embarrassed that half my family is from Richmond when I hear you and James River going on and on. A rug cleaner!! Wowsers!

65. MC - April 22, 2008

Well isn’t this fun!!! I will say as a born and bred southerner (and apopted NY’er), though not of Richmond that it is in extremely bad taste to EVER promote your family background and to ASK others about theirs is truly aweful. Part of southern gentility is discretion. To discuss such matters is of little consequence. The humor to be found is not so much in the targets of discussions of lineage but in those entertaining the conversation itself. Whoever is seriously being asked maiden names is in a crowd of wannabe’s that I myself would not wish to be associated with. To those who care, it is much more a reflection on you than those you are discussing.

66. Brooke - April 22, 2008

SuSu is a pathetic joke

67. SuSu - April 22, 2008

TO ALL OF YOU: If any of you took the time to read my posts, you will realize that I do not agree/aprove, whatever, of any of this silliness. You are all too busy drafting nasty replies to take the time to understand what I am writing about.

I agree that it is the height of the absurd to ask someone’s mother’s maiden name - BUT IT HAPPENS! I cannot make this stuff up. Good God Almighty - get real, people. I am simply relaying what happens here - not condoning it. I don’t do it. I would never do it. But it has happened to me and to many others. If any of you had the ability to comprehend my posts, you would understand this fact. I cannot make it any more clear.

Brooke: you are a BITCH. Clear enough?

68. MissusNewYork - April 22, 2008

Who makes Fab’s fabulous stockings? I love her style, she’s an individual through & through…

69. Brooke - April 22, 2008

I can’t take the time to read your posts - you are so obnoxious full of yourself - yes you are clear and so are your posts -

70. James River - April 22, 2008

So sorry to offend you HHH although I don’t really understand how I’ve done so. I’m simply relaying what life in like in certain segments of Richmond society. It’s probably the same way in Charleston, Birmingham, “old” Atlanta, and many other southern towns and cities. I don’t care how far back someone can trace their ancestry and don’t understand the big whoopers everyone tries to make about the Mercer lineage, because really, it isn’t that unusual in Virgina. How someone behaves in various circumstances and treats other people is more interesting to me.

71. Alec - April 22, 2008

I dont like Jennifer missoni, she looks kind of tacky.
Sylvana and meredith are perfect! They always look great, with the perfect outfit, the coolest attitude and a killer smile. Now I know why they are Anna’s favorite girls.
I am not a big fan of Tinsley, but I can not deny how lovely she looks, she is a breath of fresh air.

72. James River - April 22, 2008

SuSu is right. People (maybe just a southern thing?) ask “who are your people?”. It’s a silly and boring question (because, let’s face it, you can say anything) and it doesn’t happen as often as 10 yeas ago but still. It happens.

73. SuSu - April 22, 2008

#72: thank you!!! Finally, someone with reading comprehension and an understanding of how life is someplace other than NYC.

And to Brooke: You “can’t take the time” to read my posts? But you take the time to respond with a cheap shot? What’s up with that? How can you NOT read my posts and then reply? That just proves who and what you really are - a pretentious, idiotic little twit.

74. MC - April 22, 2008

No, no no no. This is not going to be made into a southern thing. That’s full of bull. I am from “old” Atlanta and split time between Charleston and the northeast. Maybe in Richmond, not in Atlanta (of old). Charlestonians are a bit different in that you are a true Charlestonian or not- an insider or an outsider… but it’s not necesarily about lineage beyond being from there. I don’t particularly care for the attitude, they practically consider Atlantans “Yankees”. Thats a whole different deal. That said, lets not generalize about the South.

#73 go to bed

76. SuSu - April 22, 2008

#74: Again, I wish I was making this stuff up but I’m not. Even after many years in the South, I cannot quite get over the importance that so many put on lineage in Richmond and the surrounding area. I enjoy living here and love my little FFV husband dearly but there are some things, in particular this lineage thing, that I detest. Its all just silly.

I wish people would actually read and comprehend the postings before they start typing. Of course, there are people like Brooke who can’t read and just type anything that crosses their little minds but I guess we can make room for everyone, including the twits.

77. Brooke - April 22, 2008

#76 don’t be nasty….you are making yourself look small, silly and unimportant - I know that is not your intention SuSu - ignore me if you can

78. SuSu - April 22, 2008

Brooke: not being nasty, just truthful.

79. MC - April 22, 2008

SuSu- I have read and understand where you are coming from. I don’t think that you are engaging in that crap yourself- you are just sharing your experiences. I think that your earlier post that asked the “typical Richmond question” could have been interpreted to be that of your own and as a result viewed as snobby. I’m sure that was not you’re intention.

Brooke, darling, I understand how you could read that the wrong way and be rubbed the wrong way- indeed I would as well (as I was until she clarified). This is probably a communication breakdown. I can see this from both sides and neither one of you are wrong, just working from different assumptions.

80. I'm from the South - April 22, 2008

and no one behaves like that unless they are hell bent on making themselves feel better by making others feel small. Susu, while you may not agree with what you talk about, you mention it through and through on this board. As a result, you come off as a pretentious poseur. If you don’t agree with that kind of behavior, STOP mentioning it. Period.

81. Amen - April 22, 2008

You people are so old……all this was already beaten to death a year ago on SR.

82. corrine - April 22, 2008

I do not understand why this took so long to “resolve” (thanks MC) Of all the snobby/mean/rude/pointless posts here, this seems to be the most silly and pointless.

83. corrine - April 22, 2008

74th said it from the beginning. If you need to have this discussion, look at the older posts. It never changes.

84. Amen - April 22, 2008

Now, will someone please tell me if the icky frosty pink she’s
wearing in the photo above is her signature pink lipgloss or not?
I would hope she would a flattering shade named after her.

85. 74th - April 22, 2008

I hesitate to jump in here, but I think it may be a generational thing. The only girls I know in their 20’s in Richmond (and I bet anyplace else too) who are interested in “lineage” are known climbers and name droppers. It is as though they read somewhere that good southern girls are interested in lineage, and so they play that card at every turn, without noticing that girls who are self confident don’t really care. To be fair, I have little doubt that some form of the “who are your people” discussion (albeit a bit more subtle) does go on in some (probably older) circles with more frequency. Also, I do know older people (in their 80’s) who are genuinely interested in learning about people’s backgrounds and connecting them to others, and I do believe that is the real origin of the “who are your people” question- perhaps the question and snobbishness do not always go hand in hand. It may be the older generation’s version of the name game more than anything else.
And, again, I must say that I do not think this is necessarily a southern thing.
(Despite my earlier comments about the Mercer debate being tired, I do love talking about how people interact. Should have been an anthropologist : )

86. Gimmy Choo - April 22, 2008

Girls stop fight!!!! That is very Ugly.

87. Apple - April 22, 2008

Marisa Noel Brown is the best one in this bunch of pictures. The other look cheap and sick. Quite frankly they dont know how to dress and stand. Can Tinsley do another leg move, she always does the same and it doesnt look good. Bright pink shoes look awful with a white dress. A fashion no no.

88. sia - April 23, 2008

how fun is the Brooke vs. SuSu posts? I love it when it gets this high school-ish.

89. bicoastalblonde - April 23, 2008

let’s lighten this up a bit…love the dresses girls. beautiful event. not loving the bashing of dabney on such a personal level here, she is sweet and lovely, her dress and shoes maybe weren’t the best choices for this affair however but come on. these girls came out to support a wonderful cause, so lets cut them some slack here…let the claws out on the comments for fashion events not charity galas for children.

90. siiiigh - April 23, 2008

so many gr8 pix missing from this eventtt

91. Savannah - April 23, 2008

SuSu- the problem is that you live in the South but weren’t born and raised there. I’m not trying to be rude- it’s a simple fact. People who were born, raised, and live in the South ask about who you’re related to. It’s because they’re trying to make a connection with the person they’re meeting. (ie: I may not know you, but we probably have mutual friends, etc.) It’s fun- we like doing it and the best part is when you’re having dinner or drinks and someone’s name comes up and there is always that one person who can say “oh, that’s so-and-so’s daughter. You remember her mother- she was in ___ sorority at ___ and was a real beauty. Her younger sister married . . . ” and it goes on and on and it’s kind-of a talent to be that person who can make all the connections. This is not to say that a southerner will do this to every single person he or she meets- only if there is an interest or a reason. And trust me- they are trying to make a real connection- not find out if you are a descendant of Thomas Jefferson or Robert E. Lee, etc. To answer that way would be to COMPLETELY miss the point. And that is true all over the South. One other to point to make- southerners have a lot of quirks and funny ways of saying things- a perfect example is “Now, who are your people?”- So, this doesn’t just happen in the South- it happens everywhere. Maybe it just stands out when it’s asked in a different way.
Anyway, it’s not rude because it isn’t even asked unless it’s completely appropriate to the person, conversation, etc. . . .
A well-mannered person would never make someone feel uncomfortable nor would they ever ask someone a question about their lineage in an effort to find out if he/she is a “somebody.”

92. SuSu - April 23, 2008

Savannah:

I appreciate the points you are trying to make but to open an otherwise thoughtful comment by pointing out my supposed “problem” makes me less then willing to continue reading. I don’t find my Yankee background a problem at all. I’m so sorry that you do.

Perhaps your comments should be directed to the other posters on this board who have taken me to task about this but all of whom seem to have a limited comprehension of the subject.

93. 74th - April 23, 2008

Savannah: You articulated the explanation of that very well, I think. I remember my grandfather being a fabulous connector of people in that way.

94. Savannah - April 23, 2008

SuSu,
I shouldn’t have made it sound like your background was the problem and I apologize. I meant the “problem” was that there seems
to be an assumption that asking about someone’s family means that
a person is inquiring about another person’s lineage, social class, wealth, etc. and I was pointing out that isn’t (usually) the purpose. I feel like the South and Southerners are often stereotyped and mis-represented and it’s difficult to read those comments. I can understand why you’re offended and, again, I’m sorry. Just wanted to set the record straight. . . .

95. Back To New York - April 23, 2008

Enough about the South and how it operates down here – bottom line is you can’t make an assumption about an entire region of a country. I thought this site was about NEW YORK socials. Back to that please.

96. Calloway - April 23, 2008

This is all ridiculous, as I have said at least once before, there are people who live in trailers and in the Appalachian backwoods who can claim this kind of ancestry, so how can anyone use this as proof that they are “social” anything?

What a double standard, if you are from New York or somewhere in th Northeast you have to be a gazillionaire scion, but if you come up from the South all you have to do is claim some meanignless “founding father” connection and suddenly you are pedigreed? What a bunch of baloney!

97. downtowngirl - April 23, 2008

fabiola has the most stuck-up personality

98. Brooke - April 23, 2008

#97 she is such a porker - chipmunk cheeks - I don’t find her attractive nor her scary looking Mama - is she another one with NO college degree?

99. SuSu - April 23, 2008

Thank you, Savannah, for your gracious reply. Now I know why I love Savannah (the city) so much! And you, too…S

100. MC - April 23, 2008

I agree, Fabiola is at least a 12-pack girl.

101. kioko - April 24, 2008

#48 - jennifer missoni is an actress and she’s margerita’s cousin, not her sister. did u catch her article in last months W on up and coming actresses? she’s not intersted in the social scene at all…

102. Savannah - April 24, 2008

Thanks, SuSu-
Saw on the recent post that you lived in DC- me too, for two years-
Now I know why we both like this site (and probably SR, too)- definitely was never (fashionably) inspired living there! :)

103. HHH - April 24, 2008

Savannah and SuSu - it’s time for the two of you to get a room!!

104. Savannah - April 24, 2008

Ha! I knew someone was going to say something!
O.k.- back to the task at hand-
I still don’t know who designed Duffy’s bag-
Anyone??

105. Brooke - April 24, 2008

#104 - you are sweet, perhaps??, vs SuSu - sisters??? YES back to the BAG ..not you SuSu

106. Dr. Vogue - April 25, 2008

Jennifer Missoni is very chic.

107. Roy - April 25, 2008

I agree with #106. I love what J Missoni is wearing. And I really love her hair too. No fuss, no muss….She has a face that can pull off hair like that. If Fabiola tried to braid her hair like that….wow…it would be not pretty at all.

108. Dr. Vogue - April 25, 2008

Thanks Roy….Jennifer Missoni is one hip and cool chick and talk about bringing sexy back! those other women are so cold and settled into their prom dresses, which they think make them look cool.

109. boutiquemixfashion - April 26, 2008

Serena’s yellow dress is gorgeous.

110. georgiapeach - April 27, 2008

#20 I agree! Byrdie is just lovely!
Jennifer Missoni is hot & sassy-love it!
