1. Jenna - February 14, 2008

Amanda is my favorite socialite! :-D

2. Bea - February 14, 2008

Lovely girl and lovely choices… she is a true jem in society.

3. Leonor - February 14, 2008

It’s refreshing to see some normal responses from a wealthy socialite. She doesn’t seem to be affected by the lifestyle. Yay!

4. Jeannie - February 14, 2008

Is she really as great as she seems? I would be very sad to hear otherwise. She is one of my favorites for sure. :)

5. Fashionista - February 14, 2008

I LOVE Catherine Malandrino. Obviously this girl has excellent taste!

6. alix - February 14, 2008

She is stunning.

7. 10021 - February 14, 2008

Amanda is a sweetheart and I can personally attest to this. She is very grounded and has nothing to prove to anyone. Not that this should necessarily matter, but she is, hands down, the prettiest girl in society. Love her choices here… I think that it is just adorable that she keeps a menagerie in the Hamptons.

8. TX - February 14, 2008

I love Amanda Hearst. Beautiful, grounded, and always stylish.

9. fabfive - February 14, 2008

I have never heard anyone say a bad word about her.

10. fabfive - February 14, 2008

And that’s fabulous!

11. equitymaster - February 14, 2008

Rock on girl !

12. Kay - February 14, 2008

Profiles! This is what I hope to see more of on this site, James. Let the ladies tell us about themselves instead of the readers/commentors building often distorted images of socialites they may or may not know. This one is a gem!

13. BB - February 14, 2008

So pretty, but so bland. And Catherine Malandrino stopped making new styles or interesting clothing back in 2002.

14. Me - February 14, 2008

Gosh, she’s gorgeous! I love how she’s dating Lapham’s son–shows that she is intelligent. This picture makes me LOVE high society and the thought of people really living such glamorous lives!

15. Mayfair Oxonian - February 14, 2008

Do this for Arden Wohl asap!

16. Mayfair Oxonian - February 14, 2008

You should ask for favourite shoes not sneakers (which no socialite should ever be caught in). Maybe you omitted it because everyone would probably put the same answer, Christian Louboutin?

17. Morgan Stanley - February 14, 2008

I am honestly in love with this girl. She has it all. Winston, dude, you’re a very lucky man.

18. Laurel - February 14, 2008

I have been trying to get an appointment with Marco for months now… no joke! She seems charming and very down to earth.

19. Jackie - February 14, 2008

I don’t know why (probably because she’s a Hearst) but I expected her to say something different for the Beauty section. I just never imagined her using Pantene and Dove… I think it is very endearing that (gasp) she’s just like everyone else. I liked her before but like her even more now. Rock on, Amanda!

20. Tya - February 14, 2008

All interesting to know.
Please start asking that Fabiola, Tinsley and Tory Burch, too!

21. Bergdorf - February 14, 2008

I use Supersmile! It’s actually a great toothpaste. And… love Michael Kors’ perfume! I love this girl’s taste. :)

22. Maria - February 14, 2008

Amanda has always been my favorite Socialite. So grounded and humble. Modest and classy. Endearing and likeable.

23. Amy - February 14, 2008

She really is very very pretty in a refreshing natural way- loved the unscented Dove -

24. chismosa - February 14, 2008

i think she’s fab too, great post james!
i dont know though, am i the only one who gets a little shocked by her roots now and then? But i do adore her. She just radiates a nice personality from her photos.

25. nygirlie - February 14, 2008

ditto to what kay said. i love amanda hearst. can you please include her in your blog as much as possible? thanks!

26. Amy - February 14, 2008

She and TM use John Barrett salon??? The roots please -

27. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 14, 2008

Whats with the words “normal” and un effected. Yeah what ever. Just because you use inexpensive makeup and shampo does not make you “normal”. The whole “I am just like you” act is annoying. Sometimes I wonder if these gals answer questions out of guilt. One should never be guilty about what they have. Its silly.
If one can afford the best why would one NOT use the best.
200 hair cut with 3 dollar shampoo. Oprah Winfrey? Middle americas queen. Come on people. ! But maybe they are “just like every body else, or ‘normal’ . We all know that just because u have a ‘last name’ does not mean that you are among the wealthiest of the land. NONE of these names are on the Forbes list anymore. And its not because they choose to be anonymous.

28. Calloway - February 14, 2008

Even if there were bad things to say about Amanda no one would because they are afraid! Same with Gillian. Lydia is an exception, well, because, let’s see…she makes Paris H look classy. Also in every interview she comes across as obnoxious and hopelessly uninformed (but I guess that is to be expected from someone who takes college classes on- line). Anyone read about her in the Observer fauxcialite article last week? Then you know what I mean.

Point being, no matter what no one ever dares talk negatively about Amanda or Gillian. Because that’s just the way it is. But how many years did it take Amanda to graduate from college? Six?

29. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 14, 2008

Oh I get why these chicks are unaffected. LOLOL. Its because most of them are NOT sitting on the fortunes that most think they are. So why would they be ‘affected’ and or ‘not normal’.

30. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 14, 2008

Afraid of What ? Calloway? LOLOL. What is everyone so afraid of .This is not the 19th-20thcentury anymore. These ‘names’ dont have much pull outside of the 10021. Pahleeeze.

31. Ashley - February 15, 2008

she is very pretty and seems very down to earth

32. Augh - February 15, 2008

Pam Stein, you sound like the worst kind of new money. Maybe she uses Dove soap because she doesn’t have anything to prove because she is comfortable with who she is and where she fits in the world. I think what people don’t realize is that Waspy types (which I think she probably is?) probably couldn’t care less what any of us think of them, as long as they can continue to live the lives they enjoy. And if they like a lower end product, they use it, because using and expensive shampoo doesn’t define their vision of themselves. They just like it.

33. SF - February 15, 2008

I honestly think Amanda Hearst is simply fabulous. She’s gorgeous. And to date, I cannot think of one time that she has made a style mistake. This survey makes me like her even more. I like that she uses stuff like Dove and Pantene… but at the same likes Punta Islita and Chanel. She has absolutely nothing to prove to anyone. I love this girl now! :)

34. downtowner - February 15, 2008

She just uses pantene and dove because they work. Same with Maybelline. It doesn’t make her humble, just reasonable. She has a menagerie in the Hamptons — more power to her, but that’s not down to earth. She’s grown up knowing her family heritage and enjoying it, as she should. And she likes Pantene, big whoop. It doesn’t define her character; it’s just not that big of a deal. Her hair looks great. If it looked better with Frederick Fekkai shampoo, maybe she would use that.
However, I’m impressed with her poise and style and taste. At her age that’s pretty impressive But if you’ve grown up a Hearst, you probably skip the Bonne Belle lip balm and Limited Express stage.

35. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 15, 2008

@Augh!First off money is not new . 2nd Ask me if I care? go ahead ask me :)

36. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 15, 2008

And AUGH you are silly to think that anyone who name drops the John B salon at Bergdorfs is not trying to prove something! LOL…
But again Augh.. more importantly .ASk me if i care about your (outside the gate looking in through the fantasy pages of blogs and magazines) opinion of anything NYC . Go ahead ask me :).

37. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 15, 2008

And to anyone else reading this who doesn’t think these gals care! Oh yes they care , thats why they try to come off as “Normal” and “unaffected” LMAO . What Eva! . And they read every word and sometimes they even comment ! Trust..*winking*

38. alix - February 15, 2008

Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 PLEASE shut it…..

39. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 15, 2008

$136K to maintain according to the article in harpers is far from Normal. Why down play it? Stop trying to make other people comfy with your ’status’

40. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 15, 2008

Alix. Why? can you not handle the truth . :)

41. Augh - February 15, 2008

I live in the city, thanks.

42. alix - February 15, 2008

No “Pam Stein 26 from 10005” (we know, we know it’s an inside joke) your posts are like nails on a chalk board. Honestly who posts 3-4 times in a row? Do seriously have that little going on in your life. “Please ask me if I care”….please, please, pretty please pay attention to me on this blog because I am SUCH an insider…RIGHT….

43. Augh - February 15, 2008

Also, I guess to say that someone doesn’t care what others think of her is a silly statement- everyone cares. A more accurate way to put it is that I think it’s possible that she didn’t sit around and analyze her answers as much as…we are analyzing them for her. Maybe she legitimately just put down what she likes.

44. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 15, 2008

Alix you eat the left cheek now and save the right for latta ! :)
All done with the cyber fight LMAO :) . Moving on.

45. Calloway - February 15, 2008

Pam Stein, just because they don’t have quite as much money as some people think they do, they are still Hearsts, and for whatever reason, people do not speak badly of them, speciicially Amanda and Gillian. Try it sometime. I guarantee you that people will think that you are evil. I am not saying it is right or wrong, it just is.

I remember in previous posts we seemed to agree on a lot of things but I don’t know anymore.

Augh, to say that WASPy types don’t care what they think of them? I hate to be blunt, but that is a really dumb statement. I know of many WASPy types - espeicially the ones on this social scene - who are ostentatious, and plenty of non-WASPy types who are down to earth. Did you ever see the 7K rocks that some of these “WASPy” ladies sport? Again, a really dumb statement.

46. NYBlondes - February 16, 2008

Definitely a babe!

47. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 16, 2008

Calloway an old monied last name only has power if you give it power. So to say someone is evil because they have an issue with a last name is funny and a bit much. LMAO. It warrants a huge ” get over yourself stamp.” Nothing personal Calloway and we will disagree, but umm money is what gave those names power. So as it fades so does the power . Simple as that! . I will let the
‘Try it sometime’ remark pass , i will label the remark as ‘Calloways opinion’ and you are free to have your own opinion of things, because I sure have mine. In a nutshell no one who puts themselves out there is above being commented on. And comments are not always pretty.

48. downtowner - February 16, 2008

Maybe people don’t speak poorly of her because they like her. I haven’t noticed anyone holding back on some of the other socials with big names.

49. alix - February 16, 2008

Pam Stein you’ve posted 10 times in 24 hours. One would think that an insider such as yourself would surely be far too busy to exert that much effort on what most people consider a brief albeit entertaining break in their day.

However this is the last time I will bother to respond to your comments; it’s easy enough to skip right over your posts.

Cheers!

50. Pam Stein 26 from the 10005 - February 16, 2008

Cheers!

51. Augh - February 17, 2008

I stand by my wasp-y statement, but am not necessarily referring to the women on this site.

52. Calloway - February 17, 2008

Augh: why? Given that your statement is pretty misinformed.

53. 10021 - February 17, 2008

Amanda has never ever made the pretension that she is some international glamazon Casiraghi or Al Fayed. She uses Dove, Maybelline, and Pantene… but in the same breath, travels to Punta Islita and uses the impossible-to-book Marco at John Barrett. She has nothing to prove to anyone.

Amanda and her cousin, Gillian, are pretty, all American, girls… no one says anything negative about either of them because they are both kind and total sweethearts.

54. missy - February 18, 2008

Amanda & Gillian are girls you want to hate, but can’t. Everything just comes so easy to them! Born beautiful, rich… and unpretentious & smart to boot!
This is what NATURAL beauty looks like… (*ehem, Tinsley.) Anyone who has ever said that Tinz is as good as it gets in the social circles is just defending their queen. I’m sure that they have eyes like I do.

55. Andrew R. - February 18, 2008

If you knew any of the socialites #54you would know that Tinz is as good as it gets with personality. Maybe Amanda is more of a natural beauty, but Tinz has a real unusual look in person, huge smile, etc.
and she is good looking. Amanda just never has anything to say but she’s nice. Anyone who knows Tinz knows how funny and unaffected she is. Ask any socialite. Who would they rather hang with? Tinz or Amanda. BTW, all this Hearst talk is really funny. The best part of Amanda’s name is her middle name Randolph, from Va. Randolphs. Tinz is middle name Randolph too.

56. downtowner - February 19, 2008

Andrew R, I have no doubt Tinsley is more fun. BUT, Amanda’s name comes from her grandfather William Randolph Hearst, an American tycoon if there ever was one.
Tinsley’s middle name comes from her ancestor Thomas Jefferson whose mother’s maiden name was Randolph… and half of Virginia claims to be a descendent of TJ. So it’s not like Amanda is trying to copy Tinsley.
