Talk about glamor. Last week, the Plaza Hotel re-opened, and did so after almost three years of renovations, with the great fanfare of Chanel. The company’s fine jewelry division hosted a dinner for 300 in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom, which was lit as dramatically possible.
Chanel had dressed almost all of its socialite clientèle for the “Nuit de Diamants” evening. In a sea of requisite black and white, Chanel was celebrating the American debut of twenty couture diamond works from its Parisian archives. An event of this scale, and by that, I mean including so many bold-faced society names, hasn’t been seen since the summer celebrations of Valentino’s anniversary in Italy.
This was the first event of the new year for most socialites. Fabiola Beracasa came with a tan that you could only get by spending three weeks touring Thailand and Hong Kong with your boyfriend. Coralie Charriol Paul was skiing in Aspen.
And Margherita Missoni spent time on Lamu, an island off of the mainland coast of Kenya. She is in a relationship with Ernst August of Hanover, the heir to the titular Hanoverian throne, a step-brother of the Casiraghi trio, and the ex-boyfriend of fashion Allegra Versace.
Minnie Mortimer was in Mustique with her husband Stephan Gaghan; her two older brothers, Peter Davis and Topper Mortimer; sister-in-law Tinsley Mortimer; and family friends Nina Garcia and David Conrod.
Actress Kate Mara, heiress to the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers professional football franchise fortunes, made the scene with her boyfriend, McG, the producer and director.
Barbara Bush came unaccompanied. She now works in educational programming for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and has been seen around town (but not at formal events) with her former Yale sweetheart, Jay Blount.
Love this. So glad to have PAP back. Such a glam event!
No surprises here. Coralie, Minnie, and Susan hit it out of the ballpark. Although I could never wear anything like it, love Kate’s dress. How cute is it?!
Susan, as usual, looks so incredibly elegant. How do you say “made for the red carpet” in French?

Thank God this site is up and running again!!!!! This has been the longest month of my life. Is Helen wearing SHORTS? Are my eyes deceiving me? Why? Why? Damn she looks old, and she has old lady legs. Why is Allison wearing those boots to this type of event? Wrong! Too casual.
Fabiola was so close to getting it right. Nice tan though. Same to Margherita. I would have liked to spend time off of Kenya with my German prince boyfriend, too.

Coralie looks smashing. Some of the others are channeling dated looks: Bjork? Demi Moore? Even Minnie looks like a Carrie Bradshaw wannabee. As for Miss Barbara Bush, what on earth is she doing in a dress that makes her look like a Wild West bar girl? She’s either got to do some upper body exercises or ditch the bare shoulder look, too, me thinks.
Minnie has a better body than both Jennifer and Gisele! But I agree, they all do share a similar resemblance.

Helen must be going through some type of mid-life crisis. Almost every pic of her of late has her desperately trying to show off her legs and body in a “Look at me, I’m past 50 and I think I can still rock it” outfit. I’m sorry Helen no amount of botox and fillers is hiding your true age and the biking shorts are just very unbecoming. Please go do yourself a favor and go put on clothes. You are not 23!
That is a hilarious comment about Helen. She has been coming out in more and more ridiculous clothing. This is a Chanel dinner. In winter. You wear an elegant dress. See: Susan, Coralie, Minnie, etc. I must admit that Helen does have great legs but this isn’t the place to flaunt them!

That is news about Margherita. Good for her. All those princes never have dough so I should say congratulations to him for landing such a gorgeous (and rich) girl. I have a feeling that Lamu will be the new “It” place now.

Minnie just rocks that dress and Shoshanna never looked better. And Coralie’s dress is great. Fabiola looks wonderful but killed the look with those ugly shoes.
Susan never fails to impress - she is elegance itself! There are several woman who regularly appear on this site (and you know who you are) that should (1) print out Susan’s photo; (2) tape it to your closet door and (3) make an effort to emulate her. Please…think twice, maybe even three times, before leaving the house in some the getups we see here.
