The Miller Monarchy May 14, 2007

The very idea of a Park Avenue peerage was a play on a term that the media used to christen Marie-Chantal of Greece, her sisters Pia Getty and Alexandra von Fürstenberg, and others of their fashionable species: princesses of Park Avenue. Two of the Miller sisters themselves became princesses by marriage: Marie-Chantal became the wife of the heir of the deposed king of Greece and Alexandra married the morganatic son of Prince Egon von Fürstenberg and his designing wife Diane.
Not since the days of Consuelo Vanderbilt had a daughter of industry famously married into a titled European family. But very much unlike predecessors like Gladys Vanderbilt or even the fictional Ellen Mingott, the Millers were one of the first socialites to have public relations representation. At a time when popularity wasn’t determined by how many pages one had to her name on Patrick McMullan, when Vogue and W often had the only say in determining society’s darlings, the Millers shone brightly above the rest in their carefully chosen silken de la Rentas. They were beautiful, connected, rich, and of course, très, très chic.
Time has been friendly to the Millers. Pia Getty was divorced from her husband, the Internet entrepreneur and oil heir Christopher Getty, after having a fourth child with him but, after a reported reconciliation, is continuing to maintain their family’s main residence in California. Alexandra von Furstenberg had a photo spread in Vogue recently; while she remains close friends with her husband Alexandre von Fürstenberg, who is still in a romantic relationship with fashion designer Ali Kay, she is actively single.
Marie-Chantal is a designer of children’s clothing for her own company and entertains and hosts in New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Gstaad, and Athens depending on the season but lives primarily in London to remain close with her parents and in-laws. These pictures of her, Crown Prince Pavlos, and their four children at one of the family’s compounds are from the May issue of Greek Life & Style.

LOVE THE MILLERS!
Alex came across well in the Vogue article..
This couple have beautiful kids, just as the ex-kings of Greece, Prince Paul’s parents, had in their day.
I don’t like Marie Chantal very much. She visits Spain regularly (her husband is Queen Sofía of Spain’s nephew) but I find her snobbish.
greece has a life & style?
either way, glad to see MC. she looks lovely (always has, always will). the family shots are just completely adorable. nice to see that everything has worked out for her!
… oh, a glorious pre-Tinsley New York! How I yearn!
Yeah, I’m also quite surprised that Greece has a Life and Style, and we don’t have one in Spain LOL.
Marie Chantal has a lot of Botox in her face.
MC is the least snobbish miller. pia is typicall “the snob” (although i don’t consider her a snob at all), alex is the avante garde artsy type of the bunch, and MC is the diplomatic pretty girl. either way, love seeing the millers. alex did come across very well recently in vogue. i wish the sisters would come out more in nyc…
The royal baby maker actually looks good for having 4 kids. Bet the sex life with Pavlos is hot!
Marie-Chantal is absolutely gorgeous. Every single one of the girls now takes all their cues from the Millers. The fashion, the PR, the rich girl look, everything… if it weren’t for the Millers fascinating New York with their world, I doubt that there would be room for Tinsley, Fabiola, or any of the others. That being said, I wish that the crown princess of Greece would come back and take her place as the crown princess of Park Avenue. I miss MC!
What? No mention of their Latin roots?
