The Costume Institute Benefit Gala of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, hosted by Anna Wintour, is typically heralded as the final event of the Manhattan charity season. It means that another social year has passed and, also to many of our social women, that only a few weeks remain to prep for busy summers in Southampton and Sag Harbor.

The Gala is the ultimate handfasting of 90210 and 10021 with actors like Cameron Diaz and Hilary Swank just a flowing train’s length away from socials like Fabiola Beracasa and Zani Gugelmann. Half-ways like Byrdie Bell and Chloë Sevigny are few and far between. This was one of those night where socials sometimes had to be subjugated to Hollywood celebrities in front of their beloved photographers. However, we can safely say that our U.E.S. women gave these visitors a run for their money with their frocks. It’s only a fact that New York women dress better.

With upwards of around 700 guests, the socials had a hard time finding Valentine or Olga Rei. Some say that they didn’t even show tonight. The women I’ve spoken to have been completely candid about the relevation in New York: they have completely blacklisted both Rei siblings. The talk of the night amongst the Gotham crowd, away from their formal LVMH and Tom Ford tables, was, of course, the dramatics in the New York piece. One social counted upwards of fifteen toasts in the name and honor of myself and Park Avenue Peerage. I’m flattered.

At the afterparties at The Box and Bungalow 8, trust funds are dissolved and Oscars are scrapped. After a long day of makeup and final fitting, actual event attendance and mandatory mingling, and partying so hard that their Louboutin heels break (it actually happened), socials who checked in clocked back between 3 and 4 AM. Tonight was all about celebrating one of New York’s most glamorous nights.

Bee and Lauren looked stunning!

Ivanka looked great as usual (though I have to say she is a marvel at finding dresses to cover her boob-gone-wrong).

Dylan looked great though perhaps a dash over-botoxed in the forehead.

Elletra looked silly. Period.

4. Charlotte - May 8, 2007

Bee is gorgeous!

5. Bea - May 8, 2007

Bee is sparkling! Love it! :)

Dylan looks so happy and Lauren looks so elegant. These girls all look really good, even Elettra IMHO. A little daring, but it works.

6. Michael Guy - May 8, 2007

Ivanka Trump is really quite fetching. Beautiful sweeping train, great fit. Now that’s an entrance!

7. Lancelot - May 8, 2007

what the hell is that purple thing?

8. Bonn - May 8, 2007

Who invited Juliette Lewis ? I was not aware she ran in these circles.

Was she Arden’s date? haha

She makes great films, but is one odd duck.

9. Wallis Jones - May 8, 2007

Oh my goodness, I can hardly believe they even let the likes of Jessica Simpson and Kirsten Dunst into the Met… they look positively horrendous! Someone save these girls!
